 The Oswestry Group

THE OSWESTRY GROUP IN KRAKÓW

18 - 19 February 2004

18th of February, Wednesday

The Oswestry Group came on the morning by Inter City train from Berlin. They have a breakfast and time for relax after their night journey. It was the problem on the beginning, because Lauren lost her mobile phone under the pillow in sleeping car. She was very happy when Mr. Wladyslaw Gibas from "Wars"Ltd. found it and our guide went by taxi to meet him at railway station. Half past ten the group started to city sight-seeing. It was guided walking tour to Kazimerz, former Krakow's Jewish district with its Isaac Synagogue and Szeroka Street. The interesting points of the tour were Pharmacy Museum and former Shindler's Factory. The group went back to the city by modern blue tram. Short visit on Wawel Hill and after lunch at Restaurant with typical Polish food - the afternoon trip to the famous Wieliczka Salt Mine (on UNESCO list). It was 2 hours underground walk through the magic Salt World with its underground lakes, chambers and chapels. Return to Krakow by our nice small Mercedes coach and dinner at rustically Highlander's Restaurant by Krakow's Rynek (Main Square). It was a day full of impressions and all were very tired.

19th of  February Thursday

After the breakfast the group went by our coach to Oswiecim for visit to Auschwitz and Birkenau, wartime concentrations camps. We will remember our common pray by the Death Wall and by monument in Brzezinka (made by Henry Moore) and our walk along the railway platform to Main Gate. After visiting return to Krakow and short time for shopping of souvenirs
The dinner at famous "Dragon's Cave" (turkey with red cabbage and pommfrites!) and the last walk through the beautiful Krakow's streets to hotel. Coach transfer to the Main Railway Station and at 21.22 Intercity train departed to Berlin with a couchette car for our friends from Oswestry.
It could be fine to meet you next year again!
